One of the most intriguing legends associated with the Skirvin Hotel revolves around a maid named Effie. Denied freedom, it is said that her spirit continues to wander the halls, seeking revenge against those who wronged her.

EP285 – ALLY KOSTIAL & SORREL-WEED HOUSE

ALLY KOSTIAL STORY:

Ally Kostial was a vibrant 21 year old girl attending the University of Mississippi, also known as Ole Miss, in Oxford, Mississippi. Ally known for her engaging personality and warm smile. She pursued her studies diligently and had a promising academic future ahead of her. Allie’s friends and family describe her as compassionate, ambitious, and full of life. She was beloved by those who knew her, making it all the more devastating when her life was cut short.

Following Allie’s disappearance on July 19, 2019, an extensive investigation was launched to locate her. The next morning, her body was tragically discovered near Sardis Lake, with evidence showing that she had been shot nine times. The news sent shockwaves through the Oxford community, and the search for answers intensified.

The investigation eventually led to the arrest of Brandon Theesfeld, a fellow student at the university. He was also Ally’s on again, off again boyfriend. The evidence presented to the grand jury led to a capital murder indictment against Brandon, with the prosecution having to prove that the murder occurred while committing another felony. Though the case faced delays due to the pandemic, an important development occurred on August 27, 2021, when Brandon took a plea deal and pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Ally’s tragic story serves as a reminder of the crucial need for open communication, especially among parents and their children. It can be challenging to navigate the complexities of personal relationships, but creating a safe space for dialogue is vital. By promoting open communication, potential warning signs can be identified and actions can be taken to prevent harm.

SORREL-WEED HOUSE STORY:

The Sorrel-Weed House is located in Savannah, GA at 6 W Harris Street and is a historic landmark and one of the most haunted homes in the US. Also, it is one of the largest homes in Savannah because it’s oh, just 16k sq. ft. Like whoa!

But before we get into the house, let’s talk about the person who built the house. His name is Francis Sorrel. He was born in 1793, in Haiti, to a French officer in the military as well as a sugar plantation owner and his mother was referred to as “mulatto” which meant basically she was a free woman of color who had a white father. When Francis was 6 months, his mother died and then his father left Haiti and so Francis was raised by his mother’s family. Now, Francis hid his mother’s race and he was light skinned, so he passed as white and that’s how he was able to become successful. He worked as a merchant and after working his way up, he and a partner opened up a firm in Savannah. He became one of the wealthiest shipping merchants in Savannah. Now, they were merchants of all kinds of goods, and because you know.. it was back in the day, that meant they were also part of the Slave trade too.

Francis’ first wife, Lucinda, passed away early into their marriage. However, he didn’t wait too long to move onto her younger sister, Matilda. But, Francis had a wandering eye and preyed upon his enslaved workers, one in particular named Molly. You know this could never be a good thing, and you’d be right because Matilda died by suicide after seeing Francis and Molly together. Then shortly after Matilda’s death, Molly followed. No one knows for sure if both were suicide or maybe there was foul play involved.

All of this trauma was compounded with the Siege of Savannah that happened on that land before the house was built. It was the bloodiest battle of the American Revolution. All that means there has to be residual energy on that land.

Visitors and investigators alike have reported a wide range of unnerving encounters at the Sorrel-Weed House. The basement and Madison Square area are said to hold an especially heavy presence of negative energy. Eerie events such as phantom footsteps, doors opening and closing on their own, and the sounds of ghostly gunshots have been heard as well.

Apparitions captured in photographs, shadowy figures lurking in mirrors, and reports of feeling off-kilter and being touched have all contributed to the chilling reputation of the Sorrel-Weed House. Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) recordings have even captured the cries of a baby, despite no such presence being physically present. These spine-chilling encounters leave no doubt that the paranormal is at play in this historic mansion.

STEVEN BEARD STORY:

Steven Beard, who went by Steve, was a man in his late 60s and was very wealthy. However, even though Steve was wealthy, his life wasn’t without its fair share of challenges. Having lost his wife to a tragic brain tumor, Steve found himself seeking companionship once again. It was during this vulnerable time that he crossed paths with Celeste, the woman who would become his second wife.

Celeste had a history of rocky relationships, but finally found solace in her marriage to Steve. However, Steve’s daughter expressed her disapproval due to worries about her father’s wealth and that Celeste was just using Steve as a bankroll. Celeste was much younger than Steve, so it was easy for everyone to judge their relationship and be weary of Celeste’s intentions.

Unfortunately it turns out that Steve’s daughter’s instincts were correct and Celeste was bad news. She ended up stealing some money and other things, but then worst of all.. Celeste turned out to be deadly. She tried multiple times to harm Steve without him knowing, and then Celeste finally out a person who would help her make sure Steve would no longer be in her life. CLAY PIT STORY:

The Clay Pit is one of Austin’s many amazing restaurants. However, many believe that it is haunted as well. Over the years, numerous individuals have reported spine-chilling encounters within the Clay Pit. Experiences range from unexplained sounds to eerie apparitions. Some of the most commonly reported experiences include phantom footsteps, doors mysteriously closing, and inexplicable voices echoing through the halls… and sometimes even whispering your name.

The place that the Clay Pit is in is called the Bertram building, and it has a rich history starting with Rudolph Bertram, the man who the building is named after. Bertram family. The Bertram family experienced a lot of tragedy, starting with five of the eight children dying within a few years of each other. It is believed that the spirit of one of these children, a little boy, still resides within the Clay Pit. Witnesses have described playful encounters and a friendly presence attributed to this young ghost.

It’s not just the Bertram family who are said to inhabit the Clay Pit. Reports suggest that other spirits, possibly tied to the building’s more dubious past, still linger within its walls. Workers have described encounters with a female spirit they call the Scarlett Lady, who is believed to be a sex worker. She roams the cellar and tunnels in search of justice. The presence of residual hauntings in the cellar, sightings of people dressed in old-fashioned clothing, and the movement of boxes have added to the building’s reputation as a paranormal hotspot.

Another spirit is the spirit of a chef believed to have been murdered in the Clay Pit. Countless witnesses have reported sightings and encounters with this spectral figure. Some claim to have seen his reflection in mirrors or felt his presence in the kitchen area, giving credence to his lingering spirit.

One particular room within the Clay Pit, known as the Bombay Room, holds a lingering sense of unease. Employees have reported feeling an intimidating presence believed to be Mr. Bertram himself, exerting control over the little boy’s spirit. The Bombay Room has captured the attention of paranormal investigators, who have experienced drained batteries, erratic EMF meters, and chilling temperature drops during their investigations.

POLYBIUS STORY:

In the realm of urban legends surrounding video games, one name reigns supreme: Polybius.

This mysterious arcade game is believed to have emerged during the golden age of gaming in 1981. The legends behind Polybius are riddled with tales of mind control experiments that caused the players different types of illness and sadly even suicides. Because of all of this, Polybius has earned a notorious reputation as the most dangerous arcade game in existence.

The Polybius game is rumored to have been named after a Greek historian who loved puzzles and cryptology. The game appeared seemingly out of nowhere in a couple of arcades in Portland, Oregon. With its unique symbols and mesmerizing laser triangle shapes, it quickly became an object of obsession for gamers. And you know when something is popular, there are long lines and because people had to wait to play their current obsession, intense fights started often.

As the legend of Polybius grew, so too did the darker tales that emerged. Players claimed to experience a range of ill effects after engaging with the game. Among these were nausea, nightmares, hallucinations, headaches, and even seizures. There was an odd effect that happened with people who were addicted to arcade games, and that was that the players lost interest in other games after playing Polybius, becoming depressed and, in some extreme cases, taking their own lives.

Adding fuel to the fire, eyewitnesses described two men dressed in black suits servicing the Polybius machines. Conspiracy theories linked these Men in Black, not to be confused with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, to government operatives conducting mind control experiments. Speculation arose that Polybius was another mind control project birthed from the remnants of the notorious MK Ultra program.

In the early 2000s, Polybius appeared on discussion forums dedicated to video games. Conflicting memories and personal accounts of its existence only added to the mystique. Some claimed to have vivid recollections of playing Polybius, while others asserted that they had never encountered the game. Some believe that Polybius is simply an urban legend created on the internet. But others truly believe it was an Arcade game that was built by the government for sinister intentions. But one thing is certain, Polybius’ origins and true impact on players remain shrouded in ambiguity. No concrete evidence has ever been unearthed to prove or debunk its existence. Skeptics argue that Polybius is merely a product of parental and media fear surrounding video games at the time. Others maintain that the absence of evidence is evidence itself, suggesting a vast government cover-up.

HEIDI BROUSSARD STORY:

In December 2019, the nation was left shocked and heartbroken by the mysterious disappearance of Heidi Broussard, a young mother from Austin, Texas. The case soon garnered widespread attention as family, friends, law enforcement agencies, and concerned citizens joined forces to unravel the truth behind her vanishing.

Heidi Broussard, a 33-year-old mother, went missing along with her two-week-old daughter, Margot, in mid-December 2019. Her disappearance sent shockwaves through the close-knit community and prompted an immediate search effort by local authorities, including the Austin Police, Texas Rangers, and the FBI.

As the investigation unfolded, suspicions were raised when Heidi’s husband, Shane, began giving interviews. Many found Shane’s behavior and statements to be unusual, fueling speculation and conspiracy theories. We know that the spouse is always looked at when their partner is missing or murdered. However, the police had no leads and the search for Heidi and Margot seemed to be at a standstill. After days of uncertainty and mounting public pressure, a significant breakthrough came when the popular true crime podcast, “J for Justice,” revealed that law enforcement was conducting a raid at a house in Houston. The raid was directly linked to Heidi’s long-time friend, Megan Fieramusca. Megan and Heidi had been friends for a while, and they shared a special bond because they were both pregnant at the same time. However, Megan was eventually charged with capital murder for Heidi’s tragic death. The details of Megan’s motive for the crime remain uncertain, but she pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to 50 or 55 years in prison, with eligibility for parole after 20 years.

The disappearance and subsequent murder of Heidi Broussard shook communities across the nation. It exposed the dark side of friendship and raised questions about trust and safety. Heidi’s family and friends used social media platforms to raise awareness about her disappearance, garnering immense support from individuals committed to finding justice for her.

EP282 – CIRCEO MASSACRE & LETCHWORTH VILLAGE

CIRCEO MASSACRE STORY:

The Circeo Massacre was a heinous crime that occurred on September 29, 1975, in Circeo, Italy. This tragic event shocked the nation and became a symbol of the deep-rooted issues surrounding gender violence and class privilege.

The story revolves around three wealthy friends from Rome: Giovanni Guido, Angelo Izzo, and Andrea Ghira. On that fateful night, they invited two women they met at a bar, Rosaria Lopez and Donatella Colasanti, to Andrea’s villa in Circeo for a casual gathering. However, their intentions quickly turned sinister.

After arriving at the villa, the two men attempted to engage in sexual acts without consent from the women. When Rosaria and Donatella resisted, Giovanni pulled out a gun, claiming to be affiliated with the Italian mafia. Terrified and overpowered, the women were subjected to a horrific ordeal of rape and physical violence. The two women were later locked inside a bathroom for the entire night.

The next morning, the men still turned to violence and unfortunately, Rosaria was taken away to a different room. Donatella had to listen as Rosaria was tortured and eventually murdered. Donatella knew that this was her last chance to survive. Listen to Kerri describe what Donatella had to go through and what she did to survive.

Desperate for help, she screamed for assistance, catching the attention of a patrolman who alerted the police. Authorities swiftly arrested Giovanni and Angelo, but Andrea was on the run. The events following the trial will make your blood boil because it sure did ours.

LETCHWORTH VILLAGE STORY:

Letchworth Village was established with the noble intention of providing care and support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. However, as we explored in our episode, it soon became a house of horrors due to overcrowding, inadequate funding, and a lack of proper facilities. The once-promising vision of community and care turned into a nightmare.

By the 1950s, the facility was accommodating over 4,000 residents, far beyond its intended capacity of 1,000. The dire consequences of this overcrowding were evident. Mattresses were strewn in hallways as makeshift beds, and residents suffered from a lack of proper clothing and poor personal hygiene. Desperate cries for help were drowned out in a system overwhelmed by neglect.

Perhaps the most horrifying aspect of Letchworth Village was its dark history of medical experimentation on its vulnerable residents. Human trials for the polio vaccine, using children with disabilities as test subjects without their consent, were conducted within these eerie halls. The first child to have the vaccine tried on him was only 8 years old. Luckily, it had no adverse side effects, and then they proceeded to trial the vaccine on other children. A few years later, the Polio vaccine as we know it was released to the public. Electroshock therapy and lobotomies were performed, causing physical and mental anguish to those already suffering.

On the outskirts of the Letchworth Village property lies a cemetery shrouded in mystery and sorrow. Many families chose not to have their loved ones associated with the cemetery so the grave markers bear only numbers, leaving the identities of those lost to the past. It is a chilling reminder of the anonymity imposed upon those who were deemed “less than” in society’s eyes. After many advocated for the numbers to be switched to headstones, there was a plaque built. It reads “In Memory of Those Who Shall Not Be Forgotten” and lists the names of those buried in the cemetery. Finally giving them the dignity they deserve.

Unsurprisingly, the dark history and neglect at Letchworth Village have left a deep spiritual scar on the property. Even after its closure in 1996, numerous reports of paranormal activity continue to surface. Witnesses have described hearing children’s laughter, furniture moving on its own, and doors opening and closing inexplicably. Some have felt an unsettling presence, as if being watched by unseen eyes, while others have encountered tall figures roaming the premises.

The Ghost Adventures team explored Letchworth Village. Their encounters included disembodied voices, dark figures lurking in the shadows, and chilling EVPs capturing haunting whispers. The team claimed that the energy at Letchworth Village was addictive, engulfing them like a drug and leaving them with vivid memories of their encounters.

Letchworth Village stands as a testament to the heartbreaking reality faced by countless individuals who were marginalized and forgotten by society. The horrifying mistreatment, neglect, and abuse inflicted upon them during their lifetime have left an indelible mark on the property.

EP281 – BROWN LADY OF RAYNHAM HALL & MARY JANE FONDER

bROWN LADY OF RAYNHAM HALL STORY:

The legend of the Brown Lady dates back to the early 19th century. It is said that Lady Dorothy Walpole, the sister of the first Prime Minister of Great Britain, Robert Walpole, haunts the hallways of Raynham Hall. According to the tales, Lady Dorothy was locked away by her husband, Charles Townshend. She met a tragic end, whether by falling down the stairs or through suicide, is a matter of debate.

The Brown Lady has been sighted by numerous witnesses, some even renowned skeptics who were compelled to question their beliefs in the face of this eerie entity. One of the most famous encounters occurred in 1835, when Colonel Loftus and Mr. Hawkins witnessed the apparition on the main staircase. So vivid was the encounter that Colonel Loftus even managed to sketch what he saw, and others agreed they had witnessed her too, but they didn’t know she was not a real lady.

The biggest piece of evidence came when two photographers were shooting a spread for Country Life Magazine and ended up snapping a picture of the Brown Lady of Raynham Hall on the stairs. Many people have said that the photo was doctored, but no one has been able to completely debunk the photo. Even Harry Price himself believed the photographers when he interviewed them.

While the Brown Lady remains the most famous apparition at Raynham Hall, she is not alone in haunting the premises. Over the years, reports of other strange occurrences have emerged, including sightings of a ghostly dog, two ghostly children, and even the Duke of Monmouth. These additional spirits only add to the mystique and haunted reputation of Raynham Hall.

The tragic tale of Lady Dorothy’s demise and her subsequent haunting has become deeply ingrained in the folklore of Raynham Hall. Speculations about the reasons for her ghostly manifestations range from her unhappy marriage to her illicit affair with Philip Wharton, a renowned politician who founded the Hellfire Club. Yet, despite the countless theories and chilling encounters, the true origins and motives behind the Brown Lady’s ghostly presence remain a mystery to this day.

mARY JANE FONDER STORY:

On January 23, 2008, the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, became the backdrop for a chilling incident. Rhonda Smith, a temporary church secretary, was found brutally murdered inside the church premises. Initially, authorities considered suicide, but the evidence pointed in a different direction.

During their investigation, the police discovered the intriguing character of Mary Jane Fonder. A woman with a troubled past who had a run-in with the law in the past, having threatened someone with a gun. As the pieces started to fall into place, Fonder was arrested and subsequently found guilty of the crime.

Yet, the story does not end there. Mary Jane maintained her innocence and presented an alibi, stating that she was at a hairdresser’s appointment at the time of the murder. The police even checked a wig left at the salon for potential evidence but found nothing substantial. The police read the letters of condolence that Mary Jane wrote to the church and Rhonda’s parents, and that just added to the intrigue, because they were very self-centered and had a manipulative tone.

The turning point came when law enforcement uncovered a loaded gun in the lake. This weapon matched the bullets that had taken Rhonda Smith’s life. Ultimately, it was revealed that the gun belonged to none other than Mary Jane Fonder, solidifying the case against her. Her arrest and subsequent life sentence left many questions unanswered.

Piecing together Mary Jane’s behavior leading up to the crime revealed a disturbing pattern. The extent of her obsession with Pastor Greg Shreaves, combined with her feelings of jealousy and resentment towards other church members, painted a chilling picture. GAINESVILLE RIPPER STORY:

In the late summer and early fall of 1990, the city of Gainesville, Florida, was gripped by fear as a terrifying serial killer, nicknamed the “Gainesville Ripper,” terrorized the community. Kerri delves into the chilling details of the crimes committed by the Gainesville Ripper, the investigation that followed, and the impact it had on the local community.

In the early morning hours of August 24, 1990, the body of a young woman, University of Florida student Sonja Larson, was discovered brutally murdered in her apartment. Another student, Christina Powell, was also found murdered in her home. Both victims had been stabbed repeatedly, and their killer had posed their bodies in disturbing ways.

The Gainesville Ripper’s crimes sent shockwaves throughout the community, as the presence of a sadistic killer terrorizing the city became a harsh reality. The fear escalated when the killer struck again, this time murdering Christa Hoyt, a student who worked at the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office. Each murder seemed more vicious and gruesome than the last, leaving the community on edge.

Law enforcement raced against time to put an end to the killings and catch the Gainesville Ripper. The police diligently followed up on leads, conducted extensive forensic investigations, and enlisted the help of FBI profilers to create a psychological profile of the killer. However, progress in the case was slow, and the murderer remained at large.

Months after the killings began, investigators made a critical discovery. They found a cassette tape at one of the crime scenes containing an unsettling audio confession. The voice on the tape was that of the Gainesville Ripper, revealing details only the killer would know. They had finally found the evidence they needed to identify the attacker.

Using fingerprint evidence from a subsequent unrelated arrest, the police matched the prints to the man on the tape: Danny Rolling. On September 7, 1990, a manhunt ensued, and Rolling was apprehended after a high-speed chase and a standoff with the police. The Gainesville Ripper was finally in custody.

As the investigation continued, more disturbing details about Rolling’s life emerged. A violent and troubled individual, Rolling had an abusive childhood, which may have contributed to his capacity for such heinous acts. In addition to the Gainesville murders, he confessed to committing other murders and spending time as a drifter involved in criminal activities.

Danny Rolling’s trial began in 1992 and resulted in his conviction for the murders of Sonja Larson, Christina Powell, Christa Hoyt, Tracy Paules, and Manuel Taboada. He was eventually sentenced to death and executed by lethal injection in 2006. The Gainesville Ripper case is thought to be the inspiration from the movie Scream.

FLATWOODS MONSTER STORY:

On the evening of September 12, 1952, a group of children experienced an eerie sighting in the rural town of Flatwoods. Having witnessed a meteor in the sky, they were drawn to a nearby farm where they encountered an unsettling creature. Descriptions of the entity vary, but common elements emerge: glowing eyes, a heart-shaped or spade-shaped head, a towering height, and an otherworldly appearance that emitted a foul mist. The children’s harrowing encounter, alongside other corroborating reports, struck fear and curiosity into the hearts of the town of Flatwoods.

The Flatwoods Monster incident quickly caught the attention of the U.S. government, leading to the dispatch of two men to investigate the claims of witnessing something otherworldly. The official response emphasized that the sighting could be attributed to a barn owl in a tree, with the owl’s head appearing heart-shaped when illuminated. However, this explanation failed to convince many, as barn owls are typically not as large as the creature described by witnesses. Moreover, the presence of a foul smell, the creature’s spindly arms with claw-like appendages, and its alarming behavior, such as scraping its fingers along a car hood, suggested a far more perplexing explanation.

Rather than dismissing the incident, the town of Flatwoods embraced the legend of the Flatwoods Monster, organizing an annual festival and establishing a museum dedicated to the bizarre encounter.

MAURICE THERIAULT STORY:

Maurice, also known as Frenchy, had a childhood marred by trauma and abuse. Bullied by his peers and subjected to unspeakable acts by his own father, the roots of his torment ran deep. These early experiences left scars on Maurice’s psyche, which would manifest in strange occurrences throughout his life. Seizures and even a car being controlled by unseen hands became the norm for Maurice, a constant reminder of the darkness lurking within him.

Despite the hardships, Maurice held onto hope for a brighter future. He found solace in Nancy, a woman who shared his dreams of owning a farm and building a life together. Yet, their journey soon took a sinister turn when the strange occurrences that plagued Maurice’s life continued. Objects flying through the air, outbursts of physical pain, and Maurice experiencing bleeding eyes left them grasping for answers.

Seeking answers, Maurice and Nancy turned to renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Having witnessed countless cases of supernatural phenomena, the Warrens agreed to investigate Maurice’s case and unravel the mysteries that consumed his life. The introduction of holy water and prayers provided a brief glimmer of hope, but the forces at work proved to be far more menacing than anticipated.

During the investigations, it became increasingly apparent that Maurice was not merely haunted but also possessed by a malevolent entity. Objects flew around the room, Maurice exhibited violent outbursts, and an upside-down cross was frequently scratched into his back. As the Warrens delved deeper into Maurice’s story, they discovered a connection between his possession and his troubled childhood, leading them to suspect a demonic presence.

With the situation spiraling out of control, the Warrens enlisted the help of Bishop Robert McKenna, a renowned exorcist. The exorcism was a harrowing ordeal, with Maurice entering a trance-like state and displaying ominous signs of possession. The ritual itself triggered convulsions and intense shaking, leaving all witnesses on edge. Although the exorcism provided temporary relief, the true extent of Maurice’s possession and the motives behind it remained shrouded in mystery.

As Maurice’s story gained public attention, allegations of his past sins began to surface. Accusations of rape by one of his stepchildren haunted him, yet Maurice vehemently denied these claims. Some sources suggest that he entered a trance-like state, displaying bleeding eyes and a changed voice, casting doubt on his culpability. However, regardless of the allegations’ authenticity, the trauma and abuse suffered by Maurice in his early years cannot excuse any actions that he may have taken.

In a final tragic twist, Maurice’s life came to a devastating end. In 1992, after breaking into his own house with a shotgun, he shot Nancy, injuring her severely. Then, turning the weapon on himself, Maurice took his own life. The circumstances surrounding his death were laden with supernatural elements, as strange phenomena continued to surround him even in his final moments.

JACKIE GALLOWAY STORY:

In the world of true crime, there are some cases that captivate us with their chilling details and unanswered questions. One such case is that of Jackie Galloway, a woman whose life was abruptly cut short in a horrific act of violence.

Jackie Galloway was a vibrant woman who vanished without a trace. The perplexing nature of her disappearance left the community and law enforcement in turmoil. Days after her disappearance, her lifeless body was discovered, revealing disturbing signs of torture and strangulation, unveiling a horrifying truth that shook the town to its core.

The initial investigation led the authorities down multiple paths, exploring various possible suspects and motives. Jackie’s boyfriend, Bruce, was a person of interest due to his controlling behavior, but his alibi and a passed polygraph test cleared his name. Another angle considered was the involvement of a Gainesville serial killer, but the discrepancies in his modus operandi didn’t align with the details of Jackie’s case.

The breakthrough in the investigation came when another survivor, Wanda, came forward with a strikingly similar tale of terror. The connection between the two cases urged detectives to explore further. As the web of suspicion expanded, the focus shifted to Jackie’s landlord, Terry Allen, who displayed controlling tendencies. Although Allen passed a polygraph test and his involvement seemed unlikely, the investigation was far from over.

As the investigation continued, a suspect named John Waterman was arrested for prowling in the area. The discovery of evidence in his possession, including a pistol, cords similar to those used on the victims, and a book that resembled the gruesome details of the attacks, added weight to the possibility that John Waterman was responsible for Jackie’s heinous fate. However, due to decomposition, DNA evidence that could link him definitively to Jackie was inconclusive.

John Waterman ultimately took a plea deal, providing some semblance of closure, but leaving behind haunting questions about the true extent of his involvement and the location of Jackie’s murder.

In September 1995, the town of Limerick, Pennsylvania, was shocked to hear about a brutal crime that had taken place.

It was an ordinary Sunday afternoon when Lisa Marie Manderach decided to go shopping with her daughter Devon. Her husband Jimmy was watching football and let the girls shop, Devon was around 18 months.

The shop that Lisa wanted to visit was known as Your Kidz & Mine, which was owned and operated by Fairley family. Caleb Fairley was working there by himself that evening, and when he realized that Lisa and Devon were the only customers present, Caleb locked the store doors and attempted to sexually assault Lisa. But Lisa fought back as hard as she could, but this drove Caleb into a rage and he strangled her to death. Tragically, he also took the life of her infant daughter, Devon. Following the murders, Fairley sexually abused Lisa’s lifeless body,

Investigations led the authorities to Caleb Fairley and evidence that was uncovered at the scene and forensic analysis indicated Caleb’s involvement in the brutal murders. He was eventually apprehended and charged with the heinous crimes.

Caleb Fairley’s trial in April 1996 revealed a disturbed individual driven by dark fantasies and a propensity for violence. The prosecution presented a compelling case against him, highlighting his perverse interests and detailing the horrific acts committed against Lisa and Devon. Fairley’s defense argued that the crimes were not premeditated but the result of rage.

KORNER'S FOLLY STORY:

While often overshadowed by the eerie reputation of Winchester Mystery House, Korner’s Folly boasts its own unique charm and captivating history. Located in Kernersville, North Carolina, this architectural masterpiece tells a story of creativity, perseverance, and a touch of the supernatural.

Korner’s Folly traces its roots back to Joseph Kerner, a German immigrant who purchased the land in 1817, giving rise to the town’s name. Fast forward to 1851 when Joseph’s grandson, Julius Gilmer Korner, or Jule as he was commonly known, was born. Jule had a passion for arts, design, and interior decoration. His journey began as a sign painter, eventually leading him to create a successful company known as Reuben Rink Decorating and House Furnishing Company.

Jule Korner’s life took a bittersweet turn when he married his beloved Alice Masten. Despite Alice’s ongoing battle with Typhoid fever, she pursued her passion for the arts and co-founded the Kernersville Orchestra and a drama club for children. Jule’s dedication to his wife’s dreams led him to construct Cupid’s Park Theatre on the top floor of Korner’s Folly. Tragedy struck when Jule passed away in 1924, followed by Alice ten years later, leaving behind a rich legacy intertwined with their love for theater, music, and art.

After the Korner family’s era, Korner’s Folly served various purposes, including an antique shop and a funeral home, before falling into disrepair due to maintenance costs. However, the formation of the Korner’s Folly Foundation in 1970 saved this historic landmark. The foundation undertook extensive restoration efforts, with over 90% of the original furnishings preserved. Today, the house stands as a testament to Jule Korner’s vision and creativity.

With its rich history and countless renovations, it is no surprise that Korner’s Folly has earned a reputation for being haunted. Visitors often report an uncanny feeling of being watched, though not in a menacing manner. Strange occurrences, such as footsteps on the staircase, children’s laughter, and mysterious voices, have been witnessed within the house. The theater, in particular, seems to be a focal point for paranormal activity, with lights turning on and off and unexplained taps on shoulders.

Numerous paranormal investigators have explored Korner’s Folly, capturing electronic voice phenomena (EVP) and witnessing unexplained phenomena. EVP recordings have captured the voices of children saying phrases like “peek-a-boo” and “haunted.” Flashlights have turned on and off in response to questions, and orbs have been seen hovering near the lights. These chilling encounters serve as a testament to the residual and intelligent energies that linger within Korner’s Folly.
